People should only dial the police emergency number when they urgently need help—but when cops in this town learned the reason why a 5-year-old boy was repeatedly calling, they simply had to make an exception.
In honor of his 5th birthday, Zachary wanted to have a police-themed party; and who better to attend a police-themed party than the officers themselves?
So he went ahead and dialed 111 – the emergency phone number in Auckland, New Zealand – in order to extend an invitation to his party. When he was unsuccessful, he called them several more times.
A concerned police dispatcher called Zachary’s home number only to have his mother Sarah answer the phone in embarrassment.

“Oh my god, I’m so sorry. That was my nearly five-year-old son, he was just telling me that he wanted to invite police to his police-themed fifth birthday party,” says Sarah. “I didn’t realize he was going to phone through!”
Once Sarah explained the situation, the officer can be heard laughing on the other end of the line, saying: “I don’t know if we’ll be able to make it but I’ll put it in.”
As it turns out, some officers were able to make it to Zachary’s party – and the result is incredibly sweet.

In a clip that was uploaded by the New Zealand Police department’s Facebook page, a crew of cops and special officers can be seen arriving on the family’s doorstep with a small stuffed toy in hand for the birthday boy. Once Zachary was able to get over his surprise of welcoming his heroes into his own home, the officers encouraged the youngsters to climb on the cruisers, hold some of their equipment, and wave to the police helicopter circling above.
The department ended the heartwarming video by saying that – while they were happy to grant the boy’s wish – they hope that it doesn’t encourage kids to call 111 unless it is an emergency.
