A unique experiment is under way in Vermont that allows older people to stay home and avoid nursing homes. Under Vermont’s Choices for Care program, Medicaid-eligible senior citizens who need home care can be tended by a family member, friend or neighbor, who is then paid by the state $10 per hour.
