This act of kindness last week on Memorial Day is still sparking appreciation and awe in the hearts of social media users.
The Atlanta Braves were preparing to play the New York Mets at SunTrust Park in Georgia when they called on everyone to pay a special salute to their special memorial for all of the US military members who were prisoners of war or missing in action.
The memorial stands as an empty chair in the stadium with a plaque that reads: “Since World War I, more than 92,000 American soldiers are unaccounted for. This unoccupied seat is dedicated to the memory of these brave men and woman and to the sacrifices made in serving this country.”
During the rainy game on Monday, a Marine Corps JROTC member stood at attention by the memorial during the salute. Not only that, a Braves fan took it upon himself to stand next to the young man and hold an umbrella over his head so he could stay dry for the homage.

The powerful photo of the gesture, which was posted onto the Braves Twitter page, has since been shared thousands of times.
One user most aptly responded to the photo by saying: “This is the best picture of the year, and possibly of many, many years. God bless our military and those who honor them.”
