Most injured turtles are never spotted, and die at sea. The lucky ones are taken to the Turtle Hospital in the Florida Keys, where a former Volkswagen mechanic performs surgery, massage and rehabilitation on the lumbering giants.
This one-of-a-kind facility has saved and reintroduced into the sea 1,000 turtles, after treating them for tumors, injured limbs and even spinal injuries.
