Unprecedented growth continued for Kia Motors America in May with the brand posting its best-ever monthly sales of 48,212 units – a 53 percent increase from May 2010, and a 2.4-percent increase over the previous record set last month.
The Korean car company’s year-to-date sales in the U.S. are up 44 percent over last year, boosted in part by a vehicle built in America, its best-selling Sorento.
In November 2009, Kia started production at the first U.S. Kia Motors plant, Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia in West Point. The facility is building the popular Kia Sorento crossover vehicle and is scheduled to begin production this fall of the company’s first hybrid, the 2012 Optima, which is rated to get 40 miles to a gallon of gas.
