How many t-shirts in your closet are feeding malnourished children? A non-profit group has set out to change that with their launch of The Orphan Collection, a new series of t-shirts designed by African orphans.
Each t-shirt sold from The Orphan Collection provides the financial support needed to feed an orphan or vulnerable child for one month and provide the child with a new school uniform, school supplies and meals for the school year.
The Orphan Collection t-shirts are all limited editions, printed with eco-friendly water-based inks, and are available in women, men and kids sizes. The designs are derived from artwork by orphans in Obanjenie, South Africa and other developing nations. With each t-shirt, supporters receive a tag with the name of an orphan that CommonThreadz is able to feed for a month with that purchase. Supporters are also immortalized on the CommonThreadz Honor Wall in Africa.
“The Orphan Collection is inspiring because the children in Obanjenie are taking an active role in rebuilding their lives and community,” said Zac Folk, founder of CommonThreadz, which is currently working in Obanjenie to build an orphanage and health clinic for vulnerable children.
“The Orphan Collection is unique because the children have a great time with their art projects and receive the benefits of their creativity. At the same time, our supporters pick up a hip, limited-edition t-shirt and are able to watch the progress of these children as they receive the nutrition and education that their purchase helped provide. It’s a true win-win situation,” Folk said.
