A potentially effective new antibiotic has been discovered in the secretions of maggots. The serum, called Seraticin, is undergoing testing in Wales but has been so far effective against up to 12 different strains of the superbug Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA), as well as the food poisoning bacterium Escherichia coli and Clostridium difficile, which have collectively caused 22,000 deaths in England and Wales from 2002-2006.
