With the release of a new computer game, video gamers can build their own civilizations. They can wage wars, conduct diplomacy and even discover new technologies in their virtual wold. But before they begin, each gamer will help choose a charity to receive a quarter of a million dollars in the real world to improve education around the globe.
2K Games today released the much-anticipated Civilization (V) by video game designer Sid Meier. Meier’s Civilization franchise has been recognized as one of the greatest PC game franchises of all time, captivating millions of gamers around the world. This latest gaming sensation now incorporates social responsibility with each computer install.
During the install process, gamers choose which non-profit cause they would like the money to go to, from among four choices:
- Room To Read, establishing libraries and creating local language children’s literature for developing nations
- Educational programs for girls in Pakistan and Afghanistan
- Building schools in Africa
- A Scholarship program for disadvantaged students
