Indian officials announced that 100,000 Indians with HIV will be provided free anti-retroviral drugs by early 2007 as part of a program which began in 2004 and has already treated 35,000 people. "By August the drug will be made available to another 50,000 affected people and a further 15,000 by the beginning of 2007, officials say." (BBC)

This is an uplifting story. Now, why is it that generic drugs are not made more widely available to people who truly need them? I would highly recommend the recent Garden movie where Rachel Weiss won the supporting actress Oscar. It relates to AIDS drugs and a rather distubing situation in Africa. They could use free generic drugs as well.
