International film star Ewan McGregor will join comedians Betty White and Whoopi Goldberg as celebrity hosts for a televised gala celebrating the first Hero Dog Awards presented by the American Humane Association.
Other dog lovers, like broadway and “Glee” star Kristin Chenoweth will serve as celebrity judges during the 90-minute special on the Hallmark Channel November 11.
Voting is currently underway to determine 8 finalists for the award show.
One dog from each of eight categories — Law Enforcement and Arson Dogs; Service Dogs; Therapy Dogs; Military Dogs; Guide Dogs; Search and Rescue Dogs; Hearing Dogs, and “Emerging Hero Dogs” (ordinary pets who do extraordinary things) – will be presented with an award and have their story told in moving video tributes.

In addition to honoring the eight category winners, canine superstar Rin Tin Tin, who bravely served the U.S. Military during World War I and went on to become an American movie hero, will be recognized with a special “Legacy Award,” presented to one of his direct descendants. Mickey Rooney, the 91-year-old actor and comedian, will record a retelling of Rin Tin Tin’s incredible journey from war orphan to one of the most famous dogs on the planet.
