A college basketball coach strode the court yesterday in bare feet to raise awareness for poor kids worldwide who have no shoes. At the last minute Converse donated 10,000 pairs of shoes pushing the total number donated to more than 100,000 for a US charity called Smaritan’s Shoes.
Coach Ron Hunter will travel to Africa to deliver the shoes to kids in need.
“Imagine if every coach would pick a game to coach barefoot and use their influence,” said Emmanuel “Manny” Ohonme, a native of Nigeria who founded the charity four years ago.
This video was prepared before the goal was achieved and we hear from the coach why he is involved. To read what happened next, get the full inspired story at the Indy Star: Hunter up to his ears in donated shoes.
