One of the world’s most beloved animal-shaped snacks has received a much-needed makeover to reflect our changing times.
Instead of depicting lions and tigers and bears behind bars, new packaging for the iconic animal cracker brand now depicts the animals roaming free in the wild.
According to Modelez International, the parent company of Barnum’s Animals, the new box will be one more step to encouraging the cultural shift towards animal rights awareness.
“To continue to make the brand relevant for years to come, we felt this was the right time for the next evolution in our design, now showing the animals in a natural habitat,” said a spokesperson from Mondelez.

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) are rejoicing in the change after they had reportedly been in discussions with Barnum’s Animals about changing the 116-year-old design.
“Big victories can come in small packages, and no matter where we look, we find new evidence that people are embracing compassion for animals like never before,” the organization said in a statement.
“The new box for Barnum’s Animals perfectly reflects that our society no longer tolerates caging and chaining exotic animals for circus shows,” they added.
