Hemi lived with Robert Connell and his family at the Marine Corps Air Station at Cherry Point until he went missing. The veteran said Hemi listened to his deepest secrets during his bouts with PTSD.
“Before I had kids, the only thing I could connect to was a cat,” Connell told WNCT News.
Years ago, Connell deployed overseas and the cat never returned home.

When Connell left the service four years ago, he and his family moved to North Dakota, not knowing Hemi was still wandering the Marine base.
When the stray cat was caught earlier this month, an animal shelter found its microchip that let them find the Connell family.
