2000 students in state schools in Britain will be taught the art of positive thinking under a pilot program aimed at cutting depression, self-harm and anti-social behaviour. The leader in the field of positive psychology in the U.S., Dr. Martin Seligman, will train British teachers in the subjects of resiliency, positive thinking and self-esteem. . .
The book on which the program will be based is The Optimistic Child: Proven Program to Safeguard Children from Depression & Build Lifelong Resilience, by Seligman. The program for the schools is a cognitive-behavioral group intervention. That is good news. I now feel happy that my grandchildren that I left behind in the UK will get a positive education. The education here in NZ is different and they place importance on happiness and confidence more than academic qualities then the learning naturally follows.
