Thanks to a simple mistake, a New Jersey mother has just won a $5 million lottery jackpot.
46-year-old Oksana Zaharov was shopping at a convenience store in Manhattan when she asked to buy a $1 scratch-off ticket form the clerk. Instead, he gave her a $10 Set For Life ticket.
“When the clerk handed me the wrong ticket, I felt bad so I decided to just go ahead and buy it,” Zaharov said in a release from the New York Lottery. “I actually used the ticket as a bookmark for a couple of weeks before I decided to scratch it.”

When she did finally scratch the ticket, she found that she had won the jackpot.
“I never win anything,” she said. “I was sure the ticket was fake.”
Zaharov is now set to receive the winnings in 19 installments of $172,068 after taxes for the next 20 years. Though the Jersey mother said that she would like to treat her two kids to a Caribbean vacation, she plans on saving the money so she can treat the youngsters to a loan-free college education once they grow up.
